What is the cheapest way to add usable space in a backyard?
My husband and I rent. Our landlord is a … well slumlord as we like to call him. The house is nice, but he refuses to fix anything that ever needs fixing.
When we moved in it was during the dry season, well from March until July our backyard is a swamp.
We were going to put a deck out back (frankly speaking it’s worth 500 bucks to be able to sit in my backyard)….but hubby says NO.
What is a really cheap way to make a 12 x 12 area out back that we can put furniture and a grill on?
My brother suggested nailing some 2 x 4’s together and laying plywood (pressboard) on it and covering it with that green outdoor carpet…

Well a deck would be the most logical but why leave something nice for the slum lord. Try pressure treated four by fours and attach pressure treated planks with outdoor nails. The regular wood and plywood won’t last and will warp and curl when its exposed to weather. With the pressure treated you can even stain to make it a bit more elegant plus if it’s not attached to the ground or the house you can take it with you when you move!
