Why Should We Clean Our Mattresses
One of the things that we tend not to clean is our bed mattress.
Admit it: how many times do you clean your bed mattress?
If your answer is zero, then you might have a problem in the future. Bed bugs like sleeping, too, on bed mattresses that haven’t been cleaned for quite sometime. Chances are these bugs or other insects, or molds might be living now underneath your sheets that could give and your family darn kinds of illnessess like flu or allergies.
Bed bugs feed on warm-blooded hosts like us. I bet we taste delicious on their end. At present, there are no diseases related from bed bug bites. However, due to its itchy bites, we may get stressed, anxiety, insomnia, and irritated skin because of the red patches from constant scratching of the epidermis, which may lead to scars. These nasty, little nasty buggers like to prey at night when we’re dozed off. And it is not only on beds to they like to stay. Be cautious also on your furniture like the sofa.
Microscopic bugs like dust mites live and feed on dead skin cells that are shed by us and our pets. They may seem harmless to most of us but a single dust mite produces 20 wastes (feces) each day which contains a protein that make people get an allergic reaction and induce asthma to people who are asthmatic.
Molds are fungi that lives indoors and outdoors. They love warm, damp, and humid places — that is if there was an accident of spilled water in your mattress that got dried without cleaning aid. Molds in bed can cause allergic symptoms that may lead to respiratory problems like asthma.
Cleaning the bed mattress is a huge and heavy job. Fortunately, there are domestic cleaning companies that does mattress cleaning services. You can find them though a friend’s recommendation, the local yellow directory, an ad in the newspaper, a flyer from a local supermarket, or you can find them online.
It is ideal that you deep-clean your mattresses every month to avoid bed bugs, dust mites, or molds from creeping in it. But for someone like me who wants to sleep soundly in a very clean bed, I tend to bring out my mattress and sheets and have them exposed outside the house, under the heat of the sun to get rid of bed bugs (they die in heat); sprinkle my mattress with baking soda then vacuum it after a couple of hours to kill dust mites. As for the molds, I usually have professional cleaners steam-clean my mattress — not just it, but also our sofas.
There are different ways to clean your mattresses. As for me, I prefer hiring mattress cleaners from a reputable domestic cleaning companies in Victoria, Australia.
